Wiang Tha Kan, Chiangmai, Thailand.
Part of the Hariphunchai Kingdom that was centred on Lamphun, constructed by the Mon from China, not so well known as Wiang Kum Kam, of the same period and closer to Chiangmai, I personally feel this site gives a far greater impression of the civilization of the period.
Unfortunately there appears to be a shortage of funding for further exploration at this site, but there are various ‘finds’ on display at the visitor centre on the site.
With the defeat of the Hariphunchaiya by King Mengrai of Chiangmai Wiang Tha Kan became part of the Lanna Kingdom until it was lost to the Burmese in 1558.
It was 1796 before the Burmese were driven out by King Kawilla.
